Health Improvement and Promotion Alliance (HIP)-NIMA is a non-profit organization currently headquartered in Seattle. HIP will continue to partner with local Ghanaian organizations

Board Members and Officers

Jonathan D. Mayer, PhD, President, Dr. Mayer is Professor of Epidemiology, International Health, Medicine (Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases), Geography, Health Services, and Family Medicine, University of Washington, Seattle, and co-director of the Undergraduate Program in Public Health. He is an expert in infectious disease epidemiology, tropical medicine, molecular and genetic epidemiology, access to health care, policy assessment, and global health policy.

Michael Wilson, PhD, Vice President. Dr. Wilson is the Deputy Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana, and an internationally known authority on tropical parasitology.

Joseph Oppong, PhD, Treasurer. Dr. Oppong is Professor of Geography, University of North Texas, Denton, and the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center in Fort Worth. Dr. Oppong is a specialist in both access to health care and in infectious diseases, and is a Ghanaian by birth. He is a graduate of the University of Ghana.

Julia Lowe, BA, Secretary. Ms. Lowe is a graduate of the University of Washington, having majored in International Studies and minored in Public Health.

Christopher Sanford, MD, Co-Director, UW Travel Clinic at Hall Health Center, Clinical Assistant Professor, Dept. of Family Medicine

Sandy Hoar, PA-C, MPAS. Ms. Hoar is Clinical Assistant Professor of Global Health and Health Sciences, George Washington University, Washington, DC, and a practicing Physician Assistant. She is an expert in health education and community health assessment.
